Dear Coaches and Club Administrators,
It is that time to begin planning for the upcoming boys basketball season. We will again be hosting District Championships for Grades 3 through 12. There will be three levels of competition for Grades 4 through 11. Our district will also be hosting at least two Super Regionals for various grades.
Here are some important facts about the District Championships:
1- All coaches, players and clubs must be registered with AAU in order to participate. Membership will be carefully checked by AAU district auditors prior to either the athlete or coach being cleared to participate. You must remember that that non-athletes (coaches and bench personnel) require background screening which can take up to five days. We will also require that coaches have a both a birth certificate and proof of grade for every player. We constantly receive complaints about other tournaments allowing older players to participate. This will not happen in the District Championships.
2- All teams must play in the District Championship in order to be eligible to participate in the AAU National Championships. The team must participate in the same grade and division in the District Championship that they plan to register in the National Championship , e.g. only teams playing in the 5th Grade Division ll may register in the 5th Grade Division ll Nationals. There will be no exceptions;
3- All teams must utilize the online AAU Boys Basketball Roster System in order to register for the District Championships.
4- Teams may either pay for the District Championship on http://www.aauboysbasketball.org/ or at http://www.islandgarden.com/. A check may also be sent to Lightning Basketball at 45 Cherry Valley Avenue, West Hempstead, NY 11552;
5- Fighting has no place in sports. If a player is ejected for fighting, that player could be banned for the entire District Championship.
6- The deadline for registration is 14 days prior to the start of the District Championship. Register as soon as possible in order to avoid any problem.

Finally, there is nothing like the AAU National Championships. They are the best run and most competitive national championships. The beauty of these events is that there is an opportunity for teams at all levels to compete against other teams from around the country to earn an AAU Championship.
