Lake Buena Vista, FL.—That’s a wrap this year for the AAU Girls Basketball Spring Fling series! AAU Spring Fling II wrapped up Sunday at ESPN Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. The more than 1,700 athletes spent their mother’s day weekend battling on the hardwood with fierce competition; hoping to bring the automatic bid to nationals, signed WNBA basketball, plaque and of course GOLD medals home to their mom!
Besides the excitement of the competition, on Sunday, athletes were in for a special treat. Many had the opportunity to attend the book signing for ,Humble Journey: More Precious Than Gold and special Q&A session with former AAU member, Olympian, WNBA Superstar, Swin Cash. Cash enriched everyone’s knowledge on growing, living a balanced life and being a female in basketball. She took pictures and signed autographs for her long line of fans before catching a plane back to Chicago where her season with the Chicago Sky will soon be kicking off. Swin passed on her greatest piece of advice in an interview following the signing: “To live, to laugh and to give. To live- each day to the fullest. To laugh—when life throws you difficult moments, learning to laugh and move on helps. Finally, to give—having humility and giving to people will fulfill your life.”- Great advice for AAU members to carry into their futures, as female athletes on their way into bright futures.
24 teams walked away proudly Sunday with medals to bring home and show Mom, tired from another weekend of fun and AAU basketball. It was a great wrap up for spring fling in 2013.
Congratulations to all of the teams who competed last weekend.
